Our mini-camps are the perfect way to learn a new skill, have fun and make friends!
We combine Irish dance with games, activities, music and more to create a day of non-stop adventure and fun.
Who can attend Camp?
Our camp days are perfect for children ages 5 to 12, with any level of dance experience. New beginners welcome! We split campers into groups for each activity so everyone can learn at a pace appropriate for their age and dance experience.
What is the tuition?
For mini camps our daily rate is $125, which includes snacks, craft supplies, themed items and stickers, written activities, and educational materials, plus a full day of classes and activities that will run from 9AM to 3PM.
What are the dates and times?
This year, we are running mini camps on days when DOE has closed schools. Camp runs from 9AM-3PM, with early dropoff and late pickup available for an additional fee. Campers may also choose to sign up for our Half-Day option, which will run from 9AM-12PM.
Where is Camp?
Our program will be held at our own Studio Blackthorn in Long Island City.
What happens at Camp?
It’s not just dance class! In addition to learning Irish dance (both soft shoe AND hard shoes dances) Camp will have unique activities each and every day, like:
Choreography: As our campers practice their soft shoe and hard shoe dances, they will also get to choreograph their own routines to traditional Irish AND pop music.
Music: Dance is nothing without music - Campers will learn the basics of traditional Irish music and music theory, including rhythm and the different types of music and time signatures that are traditionally performed.
Story Telling: Campers will learn more about the history of Ireland from ancient stories about Irish folklore, then get the chance to bring these stories to life through dance and song.
Arts & Crafts: Dancers will create their own Irish dance accessories: tie-dye socks, personalized dance bags, rhinestoned crowns and more!
Meet the Pros: Campers get to meet Performing arts professionals who will come in to perform and talk to our campers. They will get to ask any questions, learn more about being a performer and enjoy a exclusive performance!
Theme Days: Each day at camp will celebrate a different theme, so campers can flex their creative muscles (with a little help from homefront!)
What should my Camper wear to Camp?
During Camp, campers should wear t-shirt, athletic shorts. NO dresses, skirts, pants leggings, or jewelry is allowed. Hair should be pulled back off the face in a ponytail or with a headband.
Campers should bring gym sneakers AND dance shoes (soft shoes, hard shoes and/or ballet/jazz slippers) for Camp. Campers will NOT be allowed to participate in activities barefoot, in socks, or in unsafe footwear, such as sandals or flip-flops.
What else do I need to know?
Lunch: Campers will need to provide their own lunch, but they will be given breaks from activities throughout the day (and snacks from the teachers!).
Studio Safety: Our faculty are certified, highly qualified and have many years of experience working with children both in person and online. All online activities will be held in a secure and private meeting session, with additional password protection. The O’Donnell Academy is a certified Irish dance school, registered and regulated by An Coimisiun Le Rince Gaelacha in Dublin, Ireland. We are proud to offer Camp Celtic as an opportunity for dancers to exercise, learn to perform, build confidence, and have fun in a safe and supportive environment.
